New Year, New Skin

It’s that time of the year again – The New Year’s Resolutions are upon us. This tradition based on setting good practices, accomplishing personal goals and improving our lives comes around every year.

Some of the most popular New Years’ resolutions are related to healthy eating and exercise. But what about healthy skin?

The importance of healthy skin is often overlooked yet should be part of any healthy regimen.

The skin is the largest organ of the human body and dermal absorption represents the most significant exposure pathway to dangerous and toxic chemicals. The average woman’s skin can absorb up to 515 different synthetic chemicals in a single day or a whopping 187, 000 synthetic chemicals in a year. As these chemicals are absorbed, they make their way to the blood vessels of the dermis and enter our bloodstream. It’s in no way surprising that a 2012 study found an astounding 287 chemical toxins detected within the umbilical cord blood of newborns. We are exposed to chemicals before we are even born.

Some of the more common harmful chemicals often found in skincare products are:

  • parabens
  • fragrances
  • phthalates
  • triclosan
  • sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS)
  • formaldehyde
  • toluene

The importance of healthy skin should be regarded as high on the priority list as healthy diets and exercise. Choosing skincare based on minimal and natural ingredients is essential to staying healthy both inside and out.  Luna Oil Organics is proud to be part of this community –  brands that put the health of their consumer and the environmental impact above all else.

This year let's all make a New Years Resolution that benefits healthy skin.
